Sometimes it’s just better to go “un-noticed”, and if you’ve been in business online for any amount of time (and especially if your forte’ is affiliate marketing) then one key technique that you should master is to learn how to cloak affiliate links.
Link Cloaking And Why You Should Do It
Let’s be honest here. Imagine (if you will) every Tom, Dick and Harry out there in cyberville just finding out about (or rather, getting started I should say) Internet Marketing and the SLEW of seemingly never ending paths one can take in light of the mass amounts of opportunities that are to be had, explored, and marketed.
This is an exercise in Mathematical Mayhem…whereby the results of not properly “tidying up” or “taking care” of your affiliate link leads to a horrendous amount of gnarly, nasty, ugly, and esthetically unpleasing affiliate links getting dumped on the internet in mind boggling numbers.
So, as a new member and probable promoter of your affiliate program of choice, keep a keen eye on how others…well, eyeball you!
Remember: Learn how to cloak your affiliate link correctly, and you position yourself as a professional.
Learning How To Cloak Your Affiliate Link Will Bolster Your Business
Get this wrong and well, just get in line with the approximate 40 Million “other” entrepreneurs (and I use that term loosely) who are hoping to play the numbers game and just blast that long nasty, indistinguishable and enigmatic affiliate link right on out there. Go ahead. See what sticks. I dare you.
Though this has not reached epidemic levels quite yet (close though) it is clear however that more and more marketing platforms (and social platforms) are becoming increasingly vigilant and are enforcing stricter posting policies. Forbidding, or flat out squashing the unsuspecting affiliate link dead in its tracks!
Remember: Cloak or Croak!
Get this right and position yourself as an expert…because you’re savvy, mindful of your audience and customer base, and doggone it, you’re just cool like that!
Key methods that can be used when learning how to cloak affiliate links
1) Purchase your very own URL! Regardless if you have a replicated website…go get your own and PLANT YOUR FLAG! Now you “own” your property. What happens to it is your sole responsibility. If your affiliate company folds and you’re using their “replicated website”…bye-bye birdie. URL’s are cheaper than dirt. Go get one. Period. Make it yours.
2) Now that you have a snazzy one-of-a-kind little URL, you can now create what is known as a “sub-domain” and redirect that (and mask) your less than attractive affiliate link.
Let’s say your URL is “buythisnow.com” and you’re doing a promotional on Star Wars figurines.
But your affiliate is something dreadful like: “obiewhankanobie.com/feeltheforce/s?=workwithmeorelse”
Yes, that’s a bit of a stretch, but here’s the cool part…
Go to your host provider’s Cpanel area and create a sub-domain called “cooldeals”.
So, now you have “cooldeals.buythisnow.com” that is tied to your affiliate link (in Cpanel—you associate it there) and now you simply redirect this trimmed up and professional looking link to your affiliate link and no one is the wiser…especially if you choose to “mask” the affiliate URL after the visitor is redirected!
